LFS are usually the best place if you are going to buy new. Tanks are just so hard to ship that you won't find to many that will do so. As for brands no idea, but I have all glass aquarium and I have had no problems so far.

It won’t be a new tank, but the best place to get a tank is from your local reef club. At least two or three times a month a member at my club is selling a complete setup for the price of a new tank. I am sure this is the case for most clubs.
Ex. Number 1 - Member downgrading to a nano from a 55 gal. He is selling all the equipment for the 55 gal, including canopy, stand and sump. Here is a quote from him, "i dont think you guys know how low I am willing to go for this. I already have my nano running and fully stocked....just make an offer.'
Ex. Number 2 - Member listed his Oceanic RR 90 gal complete with all solid Red Oak RR extra tall stand, open canopy, and (2) VHO (110 watts each w/ dig. ballasts), moonlights, and sump. Asked $500.00 but sold for $350!
And there are several more from December

I agree with trying to find one used. You may find even a complete set up for close to what you would pay for the tank, stand and cannopy. if you have the time to look around that is.

I am also in the market for a 75 gallon reef ready tank. The only place I found so far is Pets Plus and they want 229 for the tank and another 50 for the plumbing, not including pump.

You can also go to tank manufacturers websites and locate a dealer in your area that way as well.

The last used tank I bought was from a local company that leased and maintained saltwater setups. One of their customers wanted to upgrade 2 months after receiving his first tank (It must be nice having that kind of money). I bought the used tank (80 gal acrlyic, built-in prefilter, drilled, canopy, and stand) for $350.
I've also have had luck with local glass and acrlyic dealers. Often the people that work there are into fish and do work on the side. I've gotten sumps like that in the past.
Be patient and use your imagination. There's a lot of good deals to be had out there.

My advice is Be very careful when buying used, dont let your excitement get the better of you, it may be a good deal, but make sure you check those seals and top & bottom braces, do yourself a favor.
I bought a used 60 gal, and ignored some wear & tear on it, loaded the sucker up, bought sand, 60 gals SW and 3 days later the silicone gave, rear pane popped out and I had 60 gallons of saltwater in my apartment...thank god for Shop-vacs is all Im saying...
Bottom line, use your head & buy smart..

I saw on craigs list where a dealer from mass had to sell more tanks to keep his ability to sell wholesale active. He was offering to quote at cost any set up. I gave him a few setups I liked and his prices came back way below my LFS.

Be carefull if you buy a used glass tank. although you can get some good buys you have to watch out for tanks that have a questionable seal. If it's an older tank you may or may not be getting a sound tank. that's why I would never buy a used glass tank, but I would consider a used acrylic. If I was to buy a used tank I would for sure reseal it.

another note on used tanks along with everything that has been mentioned so far is to watch for tanks that have been medicated with copper sometimes the copper can get into the seals and leach back into the water so if your goal is a reef tank be mindful of what meds have been used in the tank.
