Maybe here in the USA. But it varies in other countires. China its Gymnastics. Russia its Hockey. Most countries dont play football or baseball. They compete in those oddball events that most kids in the USA think arent cool. Soccer for instance, Biggest sport in the world. USA lacks in it badly. MLS cant touch the European leagues.
Dan Marino broke almost every record in the NFL. Well now his records are broke. He is second place to to Farve is almost every category. Farve has a ring as well. IMO Mrino wasnt worth the keyboard Im typing on. You play sports to win championships. To be the best. Phelps has dominated the sport of swimming more than any other person has ever dominated his Sport. Armstrong is a close second.
Some people can excell at many but to be the best in the world hell history at one is the most impressive thing to me.
Jordan as a pure athlete is hard to argue against. But some can argue he wasnt even the greatest basketball player of all time. You cant argue against Phelps. The olympics have been going one forever. He is greatest Olympian of all time.

Sure you can. It's because
swimming has 128 events (ok making that up), but think if any of the other sports, if they had near the same events. If swimming only had 1 medal, like Basketball and Phelps only won 1 per year, would we even be mentioning him? I am not taking anything away from Phelps, he is the fastest person to ever swim, but I don't think he's the best based on that he has the most olympic medals, because for summer olympics, swimming has like half the events. Granted, he raced in 8, and won 8, but what KJR said is true. Think if Adrian Peterson, played against the Euro League, or CFA in the olympics, he's avg per carry would be in the 20's....

True, but at the time, who was his competition? Jordan dominated and far surpassed a lot of Talent...would wilt have dominated the same with players such as Duncan, Shaq, Ewing, Hakeem, Yao, Robinson, Abdul Jabbar, Malone? Doubt it. Wilt's only competition in the entire league was Bill Russell. Easy to dominate when there is only one guy in the entire league that can challenge you....

Will Played against Jabbar back when Jabbar wasn't old and worn out. There was plenty of talent around back then.
Some of Wilts accomplishments
"He accumulated statistics like no one else ever has: leading the league in scoring his first seven years, rebounds 11 times, and even assists once. In 1968, Wilt the Stilt averaged 24.3 points, 23.8 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game.
He didn't win as many titles as Bill Russell -- Wilt won two -- but he rarely had a supporting cast comprised of All-Stars.
Numbers like 100 and 20,000 will forever be linked to The Big Dipper. But his most unbreakable record? When he averaged 48.5 minutes for the 1961-62 season.

Your points are flawed. Also Adrian Peterson is the best NFL player right now period.
Phelps gets 1 shot. 1. Not 7 to try and win 4 games. He gets one chance at being the best in each event. If it came down to 1 event every year that he swam in well guess what. He would win. Which would be his championship. Then sure why wouldnt we talk about him. He is still winning championships.
You can break down each sport to justify how you wish to look at it. IMO that is flat out dumb.
My opinion was Phelps Jordan Armstrong. Nobody else dominated their sport when they were at their prime like those 3. NONE. Montana Had Elway and Kelly to deal with. Hell Kelly went to 4 straight super bowls. That is one hell of a run.
Anyway, Phelps isnt even done. He is still in his prime and is still setting world records. Will he win 8 medals at the next summer Olympics. Probably not. But if he wins 4 golds thats more championships. medals, first place, yadda yadda anything that anybody has in the world. EVER! How can you argue that? He is the best in the world at different strokes. He holds world records in different types of swimming. Most people are great at 1 type of stroke.
Also Adrian Peterson is the best NFL player right now period.

What was the average height and weight of players back in Wilt's days? I think Wilt would have broken stilts in today's game.
I hear he was one hell of a lover though! ... lol

Usain Bolt, Tiger, Karch Kirly, Misty May, Micheal Phelps, Ed Mosses, Carl Lewis, Jackie Joyner Kersey, Albert Pojols, Bo Jackson...
what about Neon Dieon??? played 2 sports and was the epitome of shut down corner AND changed the game... Jerry Rice, Michael Irvin, Barry Sanders and Emmitt Smith also changed the game...
this is just a matter of opinion... there is no worlds greatest athelete... each of the above dominated at one point and most still hold world records...

Michael Irvin?!?!?
Seriously??? He is not even in the same league as Rice and Randy Moss. He can do a line with the best of them, but hardly the discussion for greatest receiver ever.
Good to see you though Ru

as much as i hate him and hate to admit it... M Irvin was in the same league and he did change the game, they also changed the rules because of him... he was the first of the big receivers to really dominate at the WR position... Moss isnt in the HOF yet and is LAZY... dude takes practically every play off that the ball isnt going to him... and Jerry Rice... well nuff said...
good to see you too man!!!

Not in the HOF!!!! You must be kidding

Michael Irvin career stats......12 years....750 receptions.....11904 yards....65 TD
Randy Moss....11 years.....843 receptions.....13201 yards.....135 TD
Randy was a toolbox in his early years, (like Irvin) but Moss has matured into a great teammate and guy that does play hard every down now. Randy Moss could retire today and be the second best receiver ever, and it's not even close.
Congrats on that big Boise win.
My Husky's are gonna finally win one this week against the Vandals.

Rabdy Moss going across the middle, ball is in the air, he catches and WOW, TAKES A VICIOUS HIT!!!!!
Then we all woke up. Until I see Randy go across the middle and not drop to the ground right away after catching it when about to get tackled Moss deserves no accollades except he is fast and can catch a bomb really well. And he was well behaved when he first entered the league. It was not until Chris Carter Retired that he became a tool.

there were too many weapons around Irvin and they all fed off each other... Moss has been fortunate to be on passing teams and not have a stellar surrounding cast...
cmon kjr... you should know by now im NOT a bsu fan... OVER RATED!!! they played their one game this season... i hope they lose focus and get rolled by the likes of U of I or Utah St...

Wes Welker is better than any #2 the Cowgirls ever had....C'mon, Alvin Harper?!?
I know you hate the Broncos, just ribbin you. And yes, they can sit back and relax now that they don't play anybody the rest of the year.
Darth, you are not allowed to take part in any argument involving anyone from the Cowboys, your Brokeback Cowboy love doesn't allow you to be subjective.....Let me just say again.....

Let it sink in boys, it may take a few times reading it.

I disagree with this. Moss' rookie season he had 17 TD and over 1300 yards. On this same team were arguable 2 guys that made one of the best Wideout combinations in the league. Jake Reed and Chris Carter. This team also had Robert Smith at Running back who was no slouch either racking up 1100 yards on the ground.
The team that year totalled 58 TDs and 6400 yards of total offense......Moss was not alone nor was he THE guy. He was a piece of the puzzle as much as Irvin.
The difference between Moss and Irvin.....Irvin would block and take the hit. Fight for extra yards and so on. Moss....either catches and scores or catches and falls to the ground...he does nothing else.

Are we talking about hardest worker here? This isn't Pop Warner where Timmy gets a ribbon for trying hard. Michael Irvin is a deserved HOFer, but anyone comparing him to Randy Moss is on as much crack as Irvin is.

This has nothing to do with Cowboys and more to do with who is the better receiver as whole. I will argue Rice, Irvin, Carter, Swann, Monk, Largent and a slew of other receivers were more valuable to their team than Moss was and is. Thus making them better receivers as a whole.
