Best pump for 75 gallon

I currently have a Lifeguard Quiet One return pump and I absolutely hate it. Its so noisy and puts out a lot of bubbles. I bought it without knowing any better. What is the best submersible pump to use? That's not outrageously expensive. Thanks guys/gals

Maybe look into a Mag Drive 5. Very popular pumps, fairly reliable for a respectable price...about $70.

Eheim....less heat transfer to tank water.....Very reliable.....quiet as well....Alittle more than the Mag, but at times you do get what you pay for.

What do you need 1800gph for on a 75??????
......MagDrives use more power and the issues with restarting that come into play.....A Mag 18 way overkill......the Eheim 1262 more than enough pump for a 75!!!!!!

LOL...I don't mean for Jax....I need it......I have a mag18 for a return pump....had it almost 2 years now....no issues
when I saw Eheim being recommended I looked them up I see nothing special and a much more expensive pump....SORRY Shawn....I like my mag

Never said anything wrong with the Mags.....for a submersible!!!!!! If you do research the mag though they are known and documented for their startup issues!!!!! Not just make believe
They also are less efficient at cooling themselves and do transfer more heat to the DT than the Eheim.....And honestly there are individuals running Eheims for their return pumps on tanks up to 240 gallon.....

lol...you guys should start a Mag vs Eheim thread and see what other folks have to say about em. Personally, I know alot of people like their mags but I don't mind putting out a tad more money for a virtually silent pump, low heat transfer and over all reliability and efficiency. Not to knock on the mags because they are good pumps, but I've read about some of their issues like Shawn has mentioned. But I'm also willing to bet that there have been a few bad ehiems that have slipped through the seams too.

Well if I had to have 2...how would that be more efficient

I'd have to double check the specs but 2 smaller, more efficient pumps could still use less energy than one larger, less efficient one. But that's a good question, Meowzer. I'm gonna look into that.
I.E. I'm sure Shawn has much more experience with both of these pumps than I do. But when I was researching a new pump for my system I narrowed it down to two...the mag and the ehiem. And after reading countless threads and reviews I decided the ehiem was the right choice for me.
But I say, if it works for you and hasn't given ya any problems...then why re-invent the wheel, ya know?

I think If I needed to get a pump for anything larger than a 150G system then I would have to go external.
