I'm interested in buying an RO system and just curious what the best one for the dollar is? This will help cut down my research time so every thought counts

there are many different units out there, so youre going to get 20 different answers. i purchased mine from bulk reef supply. its a 5 stage system that does 72 gal per day with a pressure meter and TDS gauge for about $210. im very happy with it and know there are others here with the same system that also think its a good unit.

I got mine from filterdirect on the bay. Very nice unit. Outputs 0 TDS. For about $125 shipped you get a 6 stage 110 gallon per day system. Add another $25 and you get a pressure tank and faucet.

Question for those naming your favorite unit - what is your tap water TDS, and does your unti achieve 0 TDS? Also, how much assembly was required?
I bought the Aqua-Safe mentioned above, and it was a nightmare to assemble, especially for someone who had never even SEEN a ro/di in person before, much less knew how one works. The instructions the company sends are HORRIBLE. I would much rather spend the extra $50-$100 for one that is more "plug and play." Tapping into my water supply was the easy part!!! You can even search my posts on here when I was trying to assemble it. If you search "aqua-safe" with the hyphen in there, it's in the top couple of results.
Anyway, I'm thinking of asking for the Typhoon III for Christmas. I like the fast flush, the DI bypass (for newbs, this allows you to make drinking water without wasting your DI resin. It also allows you to test TDS before and after your DI to be sure everything before the DI is working as it should.)

Another thing about the Aqua-Safe, there are some badly angled bends in the tubing that make the seals not flush inside, causing small leaks. It's very finicky, IMO.

I get about 50 TDS from the tap which is really good compared to other water ive seen. I get 0 tds from my ************** RO/DI everytime, even before the DI resin. It was super easy to setup too. All I had to do was choose the fitting for the supply (faucet, hose etc.), and then I was ready to make water. There was nothing else to do. Everything was ready to go when I got it.

Well, mine is 365-375 from the tap!
The Aqua-Safe just comes as a bunch of parts in a box. No instructions. I had to print them off the internet, and STILL come on here and ask for help.
If you are on a super tight budget, go for it. Otherwise, believe me, it's worth it to get a highly regarded brand/unit.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking to set up a RO/DI unit in the near future and was able to find this doing a search.
I only have about a 45 gallon (including the refuge) so is it worth the investment?

You could buy some ro from walmart, but I like the convenience. I wouldn't have bought one if I didn't use it for drinking water every day. I love the filter guys. They are incredibly nice and helpful, cheap, and assembling it was incredibly easy. It came with a giant instruction book of how to step by step with loads of pictures.

Thanks, I'll check it out. Do most hook-up the ro/di units under their kitchen sinks?
Some require extra parts to hook up under the sink like **************, but the filter guys came with everything you need to hook it up and get it going under the sink.
