best sand to buy

i am new to the saltwater aquarium and i started off with cc but i want to change to sand so what would be the best to get?

Southdown if you can find it at Home Depot and then a cup or more of live sand full of critters.

It doesn't go under southdown any longer. It should go by Old Castle. I believe that what they sell at Home Depot under Old Castle is not the sand you want though. You should look for YardRight tropical play sand.

If I was doing it all over i'd get live sand from as many different areas of the world that I could and put in a little from each

will my aquarium go through another cycle after i switch to sand if i use the same water?

If you put a good quantity of your crushed coral into mesh bags/pantyhose and leave them in the tank when you put in the sand, the bioload can shift from the cc to the sand more slowly, and avoid a cycle. Take out one of the cc bags every week after putting in the sand, until it's all gone.

i too am going to be switching from cc to ls this weekend, i can tell its going to be a pain

if you do livesand instead of the Home Depot stuff you shouldnt have to do the pantyhose thing, because the livesand already has the bacteria. A little more expensive but probably a lot easier and less cloudy!
