Thats like the first person I've ever seen with a good comment on the strips. They're generally considered the least accurate.

It's all relative. If you buy strips at Walmart for $9 from a brand like Aquarium Pharmaceuticals, you are more than likely going to get strips that are wildly inaccurate.
If you buy strips from a medical company for testing urine costing $250, they will measure ph, alkalinity, nitrates of seawater very accurately.
ps- another aspect of relative cost of a test kit is the end point color. For instance, a cheap kit will give you 3 variables, light pink, pink, and dark pink. An expensive test kit would give you somethingl ike yellow, yellow with red dots, solid red

Well when they say 'the strips' with no brand mentioned I guess I'm thinking they are just the cheap kind you get at any pet store.

Strips are also bad because they expire quickly after opening the package. Our lab donates whole bottles of strips to colleges for that reason.
