I have never had much luch with the remover products. The key is to use RO/DI or distilled water so that you are not adding them back in your tank!

Yes phosguard really works so does the phosphate sponge by Kent. I've used both.

Yes, Phosguard and Phosphate Sponge both work, but if your PO4 is to high in your source water you'll still never be able to control it. Using RO/DI or distilled with the PO4 remover or with caulerpa will keep th PO4 under control. You have to prevent the excess from going in aswell as remove what's produced by feeding.

No, two different processes are used in the purification of the two, but in most cases baring post filtering contamination they are both very pure water. If your going to purify your own water, which is probably the best way to go, go RO/DI. But if your going to purchase water, get distilled. DI is also a very pure water, just few people go that route because of the expence and short life of the cartrages. If your DI cartrages are changed properly you sould have a good quality water.

Best ways to remove/control phosphates:
1-Eliminate them at the source...normally by the use of ro/di water for all top-off and water changes. Plus avoid over feeding.
2-A good quality phosphate sponge can help but be sure not to leave the product in the system for very long...in time they can begin to leech phosphates back into the system
3- regular addition of kalkwasser via top-off water can help to precipitate phosphates out of the water column....where they can be more readily removed via a good skimmer.
Myself I use all the above...plus a large refugium system.
