My LFS got these guys in a few weeks back. They only live in coldwater and are endangered. Very few are in the US. Behold the Weedy Sea Dragon.

That is awesome! I would love to have one to put in w/my seahorses. But are you allowed to sell things that are endangered?

no. I was asking him about that. He said it took him a couple years of paperwork with the Australian govt just to get one. And after all of that work, he doesn't think they are thriving and he may end up sending them back....

you're right. they are not endangered (an estimated 1,000,000 remain), but they are a protected species

Actually, I have seen sea dragons in person, at the Baltimore Aquarium. Awesome creatures. I haven't been there in a few years so I don't know if they still have them.

Dont believe they are legal in the trade. You have to be studying them or an aquarium with i permit i believe. I think i read that at the Tampa Aquarium

Call Atlantis Aquariums in Richmond Virginia and ask for Marvin. There phone # is 804-377-0243.
He was talking about shipping them out today and for all I know he isn't even willing to sell them.

I believe you have to have a permit for them too. In fact, I may be completely wrong in saying that he could sell them. Maybe if he decides he doesn't want them, he is legally bound to return them

I saw them in Tasmania on a dive in the Bay of Fires. Absolutely amazing. We drove over the same spot for what seemed like an hour and then found the rock and dove pretty much right on top of them.
The company I chartered is the Bay of Fires Dive. They were awesome.
