Greetings, long time reader first time in need of help.
I have a 55 gallon that used to be my main tank, but now I use it as a semi QT.
When I get a new fish I put them in there, watch and then move to my DT which is a 155 Fish Only tank.
I recently purchased a NICE Emperor Angel from SWF , about 5" long and super thick. Very Nice fish !
I have had him about 45 days, no problems at first. He ate everything I fed him and actually was getting fat ! I also purchased a naso tang, small, at the same time. The naso had a puff white spot on his tail after a week, so I moved him into a 10 gallon total QT tank where he still. I think the Angel was beating him up a bit also so I had to move him until I move the Emperor to the Main DT.
Well about 2 weeks ago the Emperor started getting white "blemishes" - Flat and blocthy. Just a few at first, My first thought was ick - I really have neverdealt with ick (fingers crossed) but after reading about HYPO I decided better safe than sorry, so I started that about a day and a half ago.
After reading alot from you, I found a post that looks exactly like my Angel is looking. I will include the PIC tomorrow. You posted as to it being a stress problem and not ick. ( it was a juvenille angel) but same " white" stuff.

The tank the new ANGEL is in is
55 gallon FOWLR ( One real piece, the rest is just rock)
Canister filters 2each
Normal tank inhabitants I keep in there - Damsel - Lawn mower blenny - Always healthy - Have had for 2 years. No other fish introduced in a year. Tank has never had any parasite problems - ever - if you can believe it !
Pc Lighting
Amonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 20
PH = 8.0 - 8.2
Alk - Medium range
Again. the white spots are not pin like and round, they are "blotchy". I am sorry I don't have a pic until Tommorow. You posted earlier in a past one that this is probably bacterial or an infection.
SO my question here is : SHOULD I stop the HYPO , I am half way there - Salinity is 1.014. This could be adding stress. ANd if I stop should I move the angel to a REAL QT and use Marycn as you suggested in the last post.

here is my fish, I think you'll agree it looks exactly like the pic you posted that I included last night.
I will raise the salinity back up over the next three days and then he should be good to go in the DT.
Should I use Marycn 2 for a few days in a REAL QT tank with this guy or just hope the larger 155 gal DT tank and clean water do the trick to get rid of these blotches ?
He is eating selcol, vita-chem, zoe, garlic and everything from algae sheets to shrimp, to angel formula, pellets, basicall anything. Again he is a PIG and thick !

From the pictue and behavior, I don't see signs of a bacterial infection.

Actually he does have a little red in his Tail area, hard to see in the Pic. It's not streaks, but when the light comes through it's a bit red right at the body to tail area.
SO, here are my plans. I already started bringing up thje salinity of the Tank he is in now. Should have it back to the same levels as my DT by Sat Morn.
Until then I will Treat with Marycn 2 in the 55 tank he is in now. Do you see any problem using Marycn 2 with a piece of LR and about a 2 inch sand bed ?
I probably don't need to, Just figured while I am getting ready to prep him for the DT it would be a good preventative measure.
I will post a pic in a week or 10 days after the move just to hopefully finalize the issue.

Adding the Maracyn Two is fine, however, take it slower bringing salinity up. You need to take more time bringing it up, then taking it down.

Copy - Will do. I only had it down to 1.014 when I sent you my first post, but I will take about 3 or 4 days and slowly !

Use water from your display tank as you change out water in the quarantine. This will bring the water quality of the QT to within the same quality and levels as the final destination for this fish- in the display.
When you do the transfer, don't net the fish, or remove him from water. Try to corral him into a ziplock, or container while in water, and then transfer to display. If you have done enough water changes of display water into QT, you should need little acclimation.

Funny thing, I have been doing this for a long time and have never dealt with ICK disease, just popeye, redness, a case or two of lymph, etc etc. I have always been super slow and careful. And everytime I did have something it DID end up being something with quality of water and tank.
This is such a beautiful fish and expensive I was a bit nervous. Which I haven't been since I first started doing SW Tanks - LOL
SO it was nice reading your posts and many other members posts. When I ran into your disease picture section I was a bit relieved to see exactly what my fish has and it not be ICK.

Glad to help.
If water quality is a recurring issue, or tank environment, then perhaps work on improving in those areas. Sometimes, its not water quality, but other fish, food, etc.

Just to update. I moved my Emp Angel to the DT a while back, better water quality for sure and he is doing great and getting fat.
I.m glad I didn't panic to bad and treat. I guess it was just stress induced and he is doing great almost 4 months now sice the "semi-panic" distress call.
