FWIW ~ I don't think there is any such thing as "perfect" water. What works for some systems doesn't work for others. ;)

Beth, I think I might be needing your help again
I noticed today that my porcupine puffer has a few white dots on him , pretty sure it is ich
I do not have a hospital tank
I also have a bamboo shark , and 2 eels (blue ribbon, Snowflake)
2 large red hermit crabs, and a yellow tang
I know hypo cannot be done with the shark and the crabs
any suggestions?

Now is the time to get a hospital tank. You got 3 display tanks. Spend $100 on a hospital. In the long run, you will be SAVING money and sparing yourself a lot of headaches. Maybe the LFS has a used tank in the back of their store somewhere that they will give you a deal on.
That is my best advise. If you take it, you won't regret it.

If you are going to be housing large fish in it........the bigger the better. I personally would spring for a 40g long or a 55g with those types of fish.
It won't be all that expensive because you don't have to put any lighting on the tank or LR........just some pieces of PVC pipe and a decent h.o.t. filter......don't forget the heater.
