Not a crime to stop payment on a check? Someone better tell the courts that. Maybe there are some funky laws where you live but I have been involved in two cases where unhappy customers stopped payment. Not a good idea.
Your one post shows a 95.00 service charge. If they are charging for service there is no excuse for the huge parts mark up. You might want to contact the city or country attorney where you live. There might be laws against what they are doing.

Anyone ever heard of a quote before? I hear all kinds of excuses on both sides regarding this incident. Yet at no point did you ask for a quote. Had you done that...you would have known up front and not been blind sided and could have said, "no thanks". and called the next guy.
And how could you not have time to get pricing. You were told what needed done. all you needed to do was call the next guy explain it to them and you could have gotten your ballpark quote over the phone.
If I am having anything done, I get a QUOTE FIRST!

I still think the name should be posted.It is forum to exchange ideas and perhaps to help others who may be in the same situation.

It seems like you are in the same profession.And although you may be a more ethical professional,your removing of the company name shows a bias towards this type of business.

hmm that is deep.
I think sometimes we are too nice to salesmen. Best time to buy a car is to show up Dec 31 about an hour before closing...
