After almost 10 months of planning and investing my money...it finally has the sand and water in it! Gonna let it run for a few days let the sand settle and water stablize and then i'll get my rock! Should have it delivered next week sometime. Very excited! lol Well just had to share my good news!
Looking up,
Rocco

How much sand? Do you have a plenum system or just sand?
You cold save yourself a lot of trouble later by putting together a deep sand bed that will operate as your filter.
I recommend you build it now and always be satisfied.

Congrats. I know the feeling. I've been studying reefs and planning for three years. I finally got the tank one month ago. Already made my first mistake. Dumped 150lbs. of sand in, now I have to wait for it to settle, it's been three days already. Ugh! You live, you learn right?

When I set up my first tank 4 years ago i made the same mistake not only that but first i filled the tank with water and then tried to put the 60 lb bag of sand in so the bag was so big that it made the water line rise water went everywhere.

ocellaris_keeper,
No, I am not using a plenum, but I do have 100 pounds of southdown for about a 4 inch sandbed

Yes, you definitely live and learn. I am lucky enough to have put the sand in first and i don't think I have made a mistake yet, but there is plenty of time for those..lol..cause i know there will be lots..-_-'..guess it comes with the hobbie though.
Thanks everyone!

Just a quick follow up. For those of you that had the foresight to put the sand in first. Please be sure to gently stir the sand all over to be sure there are no air pockets. Do it now and you won't have a problem later.
