Hypselodoris bullocki, previously named Chromodoris bullocki, is often considered a species complex. Recently a colour variation has been named H. apolegma, but not all scientists agree in considering this latter a valid species.
The colour is pale pink to purple, with thin white marginal line, yellows gills and rhinophore with pink base.
Stand by and I'll double check the eating habits.
Hypselodoris bullocki is often mislabelled as a "reef safe herbivore" ideal for aquarium clean-up crews. Quite to the contrary, this
nudibranch is, like every true nudibranch ever discovered, a highly specific predator. There are several color morphs that each appear to feed on only one or two species of sponges.

Thanks!
So, unless I feed it sponges, it's gonna starve?
BTW I was gonna name this thread "Nudi Rodeo" but I was afraid it would crash the server.

Oh yeah look them up and you will get all kinds of "different opinions" on them.

Well, if they eat sponges that technically makes them carnivores, correct?
Sponges are in phylum Porifera, Kingdom Animalia (if my lagging memory serves me correctly...)

It stands to figure that something that stunning is extremely difficult if not impossible to keep fed in the aquarium.
I guess it could be worse though. It could have been that mandarins would eat only that nudi.

And I pulled up to the old farmer to ask for directions. He just sadly shook his head and said, "you cant get there from here".

There are several hitch hiker sponges yes,...but that does not mean this will eat them. Often they are specific predators of CERTAIN species of sponges and not all.
Q tip sponges are a classic "hitch hiker" sponge, but I would seriously doubt this will eat those.

Any suggestions?
Should I return it to the LFS? Won't it die there as well? Does it have a chance in our tank?

Not unless you can find ~ grow and keep the sponges that it likes.

You might as well hang on to it until its demise, then if visitors come over you can warn them about things like this or at least take some really pretty shots of it. They are normally short lived anyway, soon it may find its way to your power head or intake of some kind.

This is depressing.
