What is the difference between..
Digital light processor,
LCD
And rear projection??
I think I know the definition of rear projection, but I wanna buy a new t.v. and the one I like best is an LCD, but is that technology too new or is it too old or is it bad??? I am so clueless with this stuff!!
:notsure:

Weeelll yeah, plasma WOULD be the best...if
MONEY WERE NO OBJECT!!!
I went today, planning on spending about $1500, and when I saw the LCD for $2500 I was so tempted. But since I know nothing about them, I was hoping you guys would help!!!
Unless of course, Fishking... You want to sell me YOURS for $2500, cause then I would close the thread.

oh dont get me wrong...i understand.

just givin ya a hard time.
lets get back to the question at hand....
I think the digital light processor is like an over head projector but uses a small LCD screen
LCD is well LCD....sharp image and thin technology....plasma is better though
rear projection is like those old TVs from the 80s with the stupid red green and blue lights...just in a different area and with glass instead of that crappy rigid plastic (i believe)
go with the LCD

DLP is real nice for the money. It has little mirrors that it can position that is part of the screen itself.
Plasma is beautiful, but can burn into your screen.
LCD will not burn in and has a nice picture.

This is good, these are all things I wanted to hear!! But I hate to admit that plasma is not an option!! But so far I am gathering good remarks for LCD. See, the hubby wants me to just go out and get something, so he doesn't hafta stress over it... (He is definately an overanalyzer also) but at the same time, he knew nothing about LCD. He said that they were introduced to the market and everyone loved them, but now..."new" is still (or rather, again) rear projection. Which makes it seem that they obsoleted LCD's for some reason, and that some reason causes one to wonder...

as to plasman, i would wait a while. it is nice. but.... does not last long enough to make it worth the money. last i checked, it actually has a life span which is narrowed down to be acurate within months. that span is (i for get either) 7 or 8 years. and unlike most guarentees, plasma is guarenteed to last ONLY that long. you wont find it on the manufacturer's sites, but it wil only last that long, at least until they figure somethin out to correct this problem

actually a plazma television is not the best television yet, key word yet. life span is riavaling a tube now. if you must have something like this you need to wait for a few years and get the new carbon display(much better quality, much brighter, 20+ years life span).
if you must buy a rear projection television you are going to want to get a DLP, they are the best. you are going to want to pick the smallest with the darkest screen out, panasonic makes an amazing dlp (about 12,000). if DLP is out of your price range a LCD projection is your only alternative, once again critique the same (blackness of screen, range of view, smallest screen will give you the brightest picture).
if you want a front projection then we need to talk for a lot longer then i want to type right now...
LCD, Liquid Crystal Display. great LITTLE TVs. great picture quality but small. i think the biggest out there is 40".

We have 2 big screens, One is a Panasonic LCD HDTV 54" Nice TV but the HDTV does'nt do you any good unless the program is broadcast in High Definition, Which only a couple of stations do! DVD's play great.
But I think our SONY 47" LCD has a better picture than the Panasonic! Now we bought a 24" Sony LCD that Best Buy had the (display) for sale, Check out the displays if you want to save some money. We bought it for $900.00 !! It's our TAILGATING TV!!! Talk about drawing a crowd! Plasma have come way down in price, because they have determined that they dont LAST long!
Do your homework and shop around!

Yeah, the Panasonic 50" is the one I like. I really liked the sony, but again, it costs too much. So right now my 2 choices are...
Panasonic 53" rear projection for $1439 or
Panasonic 50" LCD for $2499+(stand)$299
Price vs. quality

HAAAAA, that was good!!!!!
Well the damage has been done. I went back to review my choices, and the LCD didn't have a quick enough "refresh" rate (which was concluded during "Finding Nemo") and the screen looked a little to much like a computer screen when the fish swam. So that kinda settled it for me, so I went with a 53" Panasonic rear projection. Got it for $1439. So I hope that's good.
