Hey all, im brand new here on the boards (just signed up) but ive been watching this topic for awhile. Been coming here to admire benino's biocube. I just got a biocube myself. set it up last week. Anyways, benino, id like to ask u a couple questions about your set up since your biocube seems to be doing really well!!! any answers would be appreciated. Did you remove bio balls from 2nd chamber?? if so, what have u put in their place?? What heater did u install and where? i dont see one in any of your pics!! Lastly, have u upgraded your lighting at all??
I'd appreciate any info. im brand new to saltwater and so far im absolutely addicted. Just starting out with it and have been getting a lot of good advice from these threads. Thanks in advance!!

Waverunner,
I removed the bioballs from the 2nd chamber and put 2 big pieces of live rock in there and I have my heater in chamber 1. I also put filter floss in the first chamber and the 100 micron filter pad on the tray above the live rock in chamber 2.
I have recently changed the filter floss with the polyester fill from Walmart same exact thing but you get a lot more for less money and I also use like the felt pad from the material section in walmart and a lot less expnsive as well, you can get like a yard for like 4 bucks. I changed the floss and felt pad every 2-3 days depending on amount of debris in/on it. I change 5 gallons of water every week and use rodi saltwater. I also dose the tank with trace elements every week. I hope this helps you in your new addiction and I have not upgraded my lighting. Everything my tank is stock, no modifications at all.

Hey benino thanks for the reply!!!
Last night I went and got some carbon pads and some filter floss. Removed the bio balls and put a carbon pad and some filter floss on top. left the water dispenser tray thing on the top to evenly distribute the water. Came home from work today and my water crystal clear!! Ive had this thing set up and running now for 9 days and I havent seen any spike in my amonia, nitrites or nitrates which is puzzling. Ive got 28.5 lbs of live rock (which I was told was already cured) and 20lbs of live sand as well as a cleaning crew. Something like 10 hermits and 10 snails as well as an emerald crab. Im excited to get a pair of clowns and a few corals but I dont wanna rush it!! at the same time it seems like I should've seen some changes in my chems by now and that this thing would have started to cycle!!. any advice??
Once again thanks for the reply!!

Waverunner,
How soon did you put a cleaning crew in after the tank was setup? Sometimes in this hobby you might not see a cycle and sometimes you get a big cycle. Also your cycle might may be so slight even a .25 or .50. I would still be checking my parameters daily. This hobby requires you have to have patience, I would give it at least another week before adding anything if I were you.
Like I said before I have LR in chamber 2 and my filter floss in chamber 1. I put the felt pad on the tray in, I dont use the carbon/filter cartridges. You can use chemi-pur its like 10 bucks and good for 4-6 months. It will make your water even more clear.

Your biocube is awesome!!!
It looks really good! I love those white stripe shrooms. How much did you pay for all those?
I really like em a lot!! Keep up the good work on the tank!!
And more pics!!!
