I just bought a 55gal tank and I want to get a jump start on the cycleing and hold some LR I plan to use later when I move into a new house. I have the tank settig out side in a shed with a sump that contain bio-balls and a large pump. I however do not have any light other than the 60 watt bulb, but I wonder if I could use a regular heat lamp that clips on just to cycle and hold LR? I also do not have a skimmer will that be a problem? should i use this water for the water changes in my 29 gal FOWLR in the house?
Suggestion are greatly appreciated :) :)
Pics are down put I will put one up soon

You don't need any specific lighting to keep and maintain live rock. It will need to be airated (sp?) and heated. No you should not use the old water for your water changes. The beneficial bacteria is on the surface area, not actually in the water. Don't forget to "feed" the tank. That bacteria needs food to survive also, the food you put into the tank will turn into ammonia then nitrites then nitrates thus "feeding" that bacteria. You also do not need a skimmer there. Not if you have nothing living in the tank.
