I am just wondering instead of using the carbon in lets say a whisper filter can you just put the bag in and put bio-balls in the back?

I took my bio balls out. I have a bag of purigen in the back. I think it works like carbon, but better.

Bio balls should be cleaned monthly because they become a trap for nitrates. Live rubble rock is a biological filter that will work better. The purpose of that carbon bag though is to remove small particulates from the water. In my opinion you need something to remove these from the water, it will help with clarity. I use purigen in my tank, it removes; nitrates, nitrites, and ammonia. It also does not take out too many trace elements for coral. Carbon bags also help clear up your water. Hope this info helps a little
