Bio-balls?

I have a 75 gal reef with about 50 lbs of live rock. Can I take my bioballs out completely? Is there anything else I should do after taking them out?

You can take the bio balls out, but should replace their filtration capacity with something. a drastic reductiojn in filtration capacity is not good so definatly put sdomething else in their place. I am personally a fan of bio balls in my 55 gal reef tank as they have worked just fine for me over the years, requiring a small amount of regular maintenance. Some people place LR rubble in the sump where the bioballs were as it can provide a fair amount of surface area for bacterial action, as did the bioballs.
I would also suggest more LR in your tank.

LR rubble caused me nothing but trouble in my chamber! I use bio-balls now and my trites are back to normal , they are easier to clean and have more surface area. Bio-balls are used here in most of the reef stores and also in tanks at the Shed Aquarium in Chicago...good enough for me

not true....Google them and read. Like I said , just b/c someone here says it don't make it true. No disrespect to anyone here but people do tend to jump on bandwagons here allot.

I love bio balls. I had them in my first tank and took them out. That was the start of my problems. I'd leave them in your sump and still up the LR. I don't do anything with them, no cleaning, nothing. My nitrates, nitrites are 0.
