Bio Cube problem

I have had a 14 B.C. for a while now and just got a 29 . With the filter in place the pump ends up starving for water and soon as I remove the filter everything was fine . Even sticking a piece of filter material there instead and is little better but I would like to run the stock filters .

Yea unfortunatly its not easy I had the same issue.. My filter would get all clogged with hard particulates and would restrict the flow to the middle chamber..I ended up ditching the filter all together. I bought some filter floss and carbon bags. Opened up the middle chamber and put the carbon bags down on the BB and the floss on top of that Wooalla instant filter cartridge..LOL. Then I cut the opeing from the first to the middle chamber wider so more water can pour in, works perfect. Those replacement filters for the BC are expensive too. I can take out the floss and rinse it out and reuse it for a month before I replace it.

How much water do you have in the tank? I poured the water directly in the back middle chamber until it is a good 3 or 4 inches above the "max" mark on the left chamber and have no problems. Now that I think about it, it might even be more than 3 or 4 inches higher. The water in the tank is about 1/4" to 3/8" from flowing over the divider between the display tank and the back chambers.

With a new filter and I even filled up the pump area with water and still have problem . The water level in that tank it to the very top and almost overflowing into the back section . I removed the foam in the pump area and that seems to help . Think I`ll do some cutting for better flow .

I haven't had to cut anything, just remove the filter from the right chamber, remove the bioballs and put either live rock rubble or Seachem Matrix and Seachem Purigen and some filterfloss in the center (like I did) and add water until it's an inch or 2 above the maximum line. I, also, run a bag of Seachem Carbon in the right chamber. If the water noise is too much flowing into the middle chamber just lay some more filterfloss on top of the grate. This all works great. one other thing you might want to try is to pull the filter in the 1st chamber up about 1/2 inch. This will increase your water flow by quite a bit.
