im just wandering if i have too many fish with my corals??
i tried catching some of the fish to givev them back to my LFS but i have no luck since there is so much rock and corals that i have placed that i dont wanna take apart....
first off i have a 100 gallon tank with about 125lbs of LR and 2" of LS tank has been established for 2 years and i just recently got into getting corals since i upgraded my lights to 400W of PC.... i have 2 fluval 404's running chemi clean carbon (supposedly the best out there) a hang on back protein skimmer rated for 150gallons... 3 power heads.....uv filter
for fish i have the following.....
1-2" dwarf fuzzy lion
1-3" blue hippo tang
2-1" yt damsils
1-1"blue damsil
1-1.5"mandarin goby
2-2.5" siscor tail gobbies
1-1.5" jaw fish
1-2" 3 striped damsil
1-2" tomato clown
i also have an about 20" long white ribbon eel
corals i have the following.....
6" pagoda cup
bubble coral
green brain coral
green star polyps
green button polyps
small frag of candy coral
teal color 7 mushrooms
colt coral
yellow burst polyps
inverts i have the following
2 rbt anemones
3 LT anemones
20 or so hermits
8 turbos
5 astreas
1 flame scallop
1 sand sifter star
1 brittle star
2 feather dusters
as you can see seems like a lot but im not sure if its ok.... i think i have too many fish but i cant seem to catch the lil buggers....all of my corals and fish seem to be doing fine im just affraid that i might have too much and its only a matter of time before the water goes bad and kills my corals.... i change 10-15G of fresh sea water every 2 weeks along with changing the carbon every 4-6 weeks .... all of my water is good
PH 8.2
Am 0
NI 0
NA 0
Ca 460
salinity 1.025
temp 79-80
Phospahets are between 1-2 ppms ( i know its a lil high and am runnning a phos sponge)
please let me know what u guys think .... if its way too many fish then ill have to try and catch them...
thanks !

As far as I know, just watch your water parameters. If they are all good then don't worry. I can't find the thread right now, but there is a beautiful 180 gallon tank on here that has 29 fish, and he hasn't had any problems. In fact, it is one of the best looking tanks that I have seen so far. I am no expert, by far, but I have seen it work out fine. I have had alot of people tell me to do one thing, or that I can't do another. But the best advice I was ever given, is to understand that not too many things in this hobby is definate. I have heard of people keeping Moorish Idols and Mandarins, with minimum work. I have heard of others that can't even get a damsel to survive. (Uh, myself...) But the truth is, just educate yourself on the risks of your decision, and decide for yourself. I am sure that alot of people will say that you have too many fish, but like I said before, I have seen it work out great.
Whew.
My question for you, is how are things working out with your eel and you dwarf lion? I want to have a snowflake eel, and a dwarf lion, but I have heard that they will cause havoc on my shrimp and smaller fish. Have you had any problems so far?

thanks for the reply!

this is my original user name which i couldnt use until now the admin fixed it for me!
yeah i figured as long as i keep up on the water changes and the regular maintenance i shouldnt have a problem but i wanted to make sure that it was just a matter of time until something went wrong.... not to say it still cant but ill just keep a close tab on everything
as for the fuzzy dwarf and eel heres how i see it.... my dwarf lion fish i got him small so when i put him in the cleaner shrimp i have which i forgot to mention was bigger than he could eat so he doesnt see it as food just another tank mate.... ive had the eel forever and hes way cool just getting pretty big now! neither of the 2 have ever ate any of my inverts be it crabs or hermits.... actually the cleaner shrimp loves to clean my eel and lion when they stop by him.... so i think it depends on how u introduce them.... if you put the eel and lion in first then throw in a small shrimp they will see it as food since they are now acustomed to seeing food dropped in.... if u put the shrimps in first then the fish and eel second they wont see them as food.... not exactly sure but i think thats the best way to do it!!! both of them make great additions to my tank.... the lions swims around and follows me and the eel is always swimming around !
hope that helps some if u have any more questions please ask!
thanks
Justin

Just wait unitl they get bigger...
I wouldn't worry too much about the bioload if you can keep everything stable for a while b/c once the lion gets to about 3-5" he will elimiate the remaining bioload. For sure the damsels will become dinner. I did the same thing about 8 or 9 yrs ago. My damsels made it for about 3 months and then about once a week one would be missing and you could see a blue ball stretched out in the lions stomach.

The only note I have is that your carbon is in there for too long. By 3 weeks or so, usually the carbon is used up, with a more likely scenario of your bioload used up in 2 weeks or so.

well that would actually be a good thing :D lol j/k but i wanna get the damsils out but i cant catch them so if he eats them for dinner then i guess hed be happy and so would i.... i know i shouldnt be saying that but sorry....

i agree that the carbon would be used up a lot faster, however this carbon i bought was a lot more expensive and it stated on the bottle it came in....(comes in a netted bag already moistened) that it will last up to 3 months so i figured since i usually change carbon every 3 weeks i could push it a couple weeks longer and the LFS agrees... i know they say whatever but ive known them for around 20 years now....
thanks for the input though.... i do agree with what u guys are saying...

u know i dont have the container in front of me right this minute ..... but im going to my LFS in a few minutes ill grab one while im there..... one container / bag claims to do 50 gallons.... the cost is somewhere around $12-13 if im thinking correctly but its supposed to be much better than even the other high priced ones i was buying before.... ill post when i get back what it says on the bottle and let u know.... my 2 local LFS's have said the same thing though that it last up to three months just clean out your filter pad every couple 3 weeks or so....
this is the first time ive bought it and its been in now for about 2weeks so we will c how it goes..... ill check back in a few...

yeah hes got a lot of fish in there..... the only thing it looks like he doesnt have any corals.... that was my only fear is having too many corals and that the fish might hurt the water quality just enough to hurt my corals....
thanks for the pics though....
ctgretzky9

the name is called chemi-pure .... claims to be the best stuff out there..... the lfs's agree saying the other stuff u need to change at least every 4 weeks this can go for up to 3 months! the cost at my LFS was $8.99 its produced by kent marine and boyd enterprises
look it up on the web it shbould help with some info

Well that was only small photos. Corals only add a minimal amount of bioload "just like the cleanup crew" They dont add that mutch that is why you can have a tank stocked to the "gills lol" with corals and still have the max amount "inches" of fish and be fine.

well ill just leave all alone for now and see how it goes.... as of recently all is doing well ahe corals are open and i just noticed today that my Green Star Polyps have started spreading onto an adjacent tunga branch.... its spread like an inch onto it so far and ive only had them like 2 months or so....
ill keep u updated of changes :)
