biocube filtration

I was wanting feedback on the biocube's stock filtration system. I have read a lot of thread where people are modding them. I have had my tank over a year and wanted to know if there if i should make it better if it is not good enough for a reef tank. I wanted to get info before I started adding lots of corals.

if you have had it for a year with no problems ever, why change something that already works. i've seen plenty of biocubes that run stock and do fine. as long as you are keeping up with routine cleaning and maintenance.
The most common modification is removing the bioballs and adding chemipure, carbon and purigen or converting the second compartment into a refugium with live sand/live rock rubble, a form of macro algae (cheato/mangroves) with a mini light
