BioCube Question

I have a 14G BioCube cycling this week. The compartment on the right has a mechanical filter and that compartment has 2 or 3 slots for the filter to fit in. Where does the filter go in the compartment, just behind the backwall / intakes or in the middle of the compartment???
Right now I have it up against the backwall / intakes so I can fit a small heater behind the filter in the same compartment. I do have to jamb the filter in and out with a little force, so that is why I am questioning the placement of it.
Any help would be appreciated and I thank you in advance.
Cheers,
Chris

On my 29 Biocube the filter fits into the slots perpedicular to the back wall. The back of the filter (the side without the white material) should be parallel to, and facing, the compartment with the bioballs. I think it would restrict the intake flow if you have it up against the backwall/intake grate (if I'm picturing your set up correctly).

Mine works the same as AZReefs. I put mine in those slots as well with a 50W heater sitting in the intake compartment.

BioCubes came highly recommended but their website and instruciton book is lacking. I'm going from memory but my instruction book had the facing of the filter paralell with the backwall so that would be perpindicular to the biocubes. I will pull of the booklot again tonight. I do know that it had an illustration with the filter going into the compartment, but there was no sense to the placement within the compartment.
Thanks for your help AZ! Any other input from other lurkers is still welcomed!!! Martini you out there, I think you had a 14G BioCube.

You're right, the book does illustrate the filter to be parallel to the back wall. The manual is wrong (kinda makes you wonder who at the company proof reads the manuals for correct infomation!).

I believe they revised the filter compartment without revising the manual. Mine also shows it going in flat against the back panel.

I actually have the filter to the left like everybody else but I also put a piece of polyfilter infront of the filter. Cut it to size and shove it in there. Not sure if the compartment on the 14 gal is big enough for it but the polyfilter really helps with the water clarity. I also replaced the bioballs with live rock rubble and then put two bags of the chemi pure carbon on top of the rubble. I change the original filter and the polyfilter every three to four weeks.
As far as being restrictive, when I replace the filter and polyfilter it is a little restrictive until it gets waterlogged then it flows pretty good. I run the water level in the tank so that water is barely spilling over the top of the back wall and into the back chambers. I have found that this keeps scum off of the surface and also seems to keep the water level regulated better so that the pump chamber doesn't run low and start blowing bubbles into the tank.
