birdsnest

I got a frag of birdsnest from a local frag swap and its got quite a few branches on it. its yellow with pink polyps.
My question is at the very top of the highest branch it is all one solid color (looks purple or maybe black)
Id this area dead? is this common? should I snip it off?

without a pic, its hard to answer for certain. new growth is normally white. if its black, most likely its dead tissue.

yeah, i think its dead. I saw a larger version of the same thing in my LFS today. should I snip it off or jsut leave it?
