bitten by Hemodice Carunculata. Not happy.

2 questions:
#1 Is the Hemodice Carunculata (bad Fireworm) only from the Caribean or is it also a Pacific dweller. More importantly, if I wish to avoid this specific type of worm (as I accept that most types of Bristleworms are beneficial and welcome), would I be safe in only purchasing Fiji rock and only introducing sand/substrate from the Pacific?
Or is it a lost cause. Is this a dweller of both oceans? Please respond.
#2 - It's been almost 2 weeks since I was bitten by a 6" monster and my finger still throbs and is swollen. I'm off to see a doctor tomorrow, but afraid he give some generic remedy. I'm more interested in suggestions from someone in the field/hobby who knows first-hand, perhaps has been bitten. Please respond.
Thanks,
Zeke

someone else on here got bitten by one of those worms. You should do a search to find it. Maybe he would know.

Well if it isn't one thing it's another. You could probably avoid that particular worm, but one like it will probably still pop up :(

my friend was bitten by one of those once; his hand must have hurt for a week or so; more immediately he said he did vomit/nausea and hand was very numb; but past after about a week; probably depends on how alergic you might be; genereal treatment was to run hot water over the wound and rub vinegar on affected area; however, if still severely botthered by it, probably best to see your doctor who might suggest seeing a toxicoligist

Try the Blue Ring Octopus :) Its sting is fatal :)
As for the worm, if you do get bit, one of the best things to do is cut off as much circulation to the area and head straight to the doctor :) (speaking from experience).

I would strongly suggest seeing a doctor and as far as cutting off circulation becarefull with that. If you were bitten/stung..whatever...you, instead of cutting off circulation which if done wrong can cause loss of the finger. Elevate and ice it then get your hind parts to a doctor asap. You never know how your body is going to react to various toxins.

Being a nurse, I would reccomend you get to the doctor. 2 weeks is too long for it to take to heal. By now, you should have seen improvement. Sorry to bear bad news, but you may have a local infection or a localized reaction to the 'poison'. Let us know what he/she says!
