Hi all i've been on the boards awhile now and this is my first saltwater tank, so i will make some rookie mistakes, so please correct me. The day i start happens to be the day the Sox won the world series!
Anyway, today I just put about 15 gallons of water in and 20lbs of live sand. I only put 15 gallons of water in because my live sand bag had a whole in it and my tank stand had to dry (painted it, pics below). so i had to but the sand and about 15 gallons of water. i dumped all that in my tank today and have about 12 gallons of water to put in tommarow. I am using a Marineland Bio Wheel 200 as my filter and no protien skimmer. At the end of this week or next week ill get some live rock. PICS COMING IN A SECOND!

Congrats on the new. Couple of things, the liquid crystal temp thingy is OK, but a digital Coralife Temperature one is $8.00, much more reliable. How are you checking salinity? Hydrometers are not the best or reliable, refractometers are essential pieces of equipment IMO.

Well its my second day of my tank being set up. I now got all of my water in the tank and i picked up a 4 lb piece of LR today at ***** for $18. Its a good piece of rock with a little tunnel in it. Might go back this week to get a couple more pieces. I also got my filter and heater up and running. PICS COMING SOON!

Up to now, the tank has potential! LOL I remember when I started. I had the same set up and my "live rock" was lava rock! LOL. Starting good though.
Are you planning on making it a reeftank? ...good fish wish list if you are.

If you do VERY RELIGIOUS water changes and keep an all seeing eye on your water params, yeah you could get another. I personally would stick with just three fish. 30 gallon tank right?
You are on the right track. GRab som e more LR and wait as long as possible before adding any fish. The longer you wait the more bio filtration (copepods and other beneficial bacteria) will build up in your tank causing a better stability. In a few weeks, when the water is done cycling get a clean up crew to maintain unwanted algae and such, then afew weeks later add your first fish. If you get a clown, you may want to add it last as they can bedcome VERY terrritorial. The gramma should probably be added first as they are VERY shy and will need time to feel comfortable in its new home. Keep the pics comin.
