black algae growth on ls

this is my first saltwater tank...it is a 75 gallon fo(2 tangs, a maroon clown and african starfish) and has been up and running since november 2002 with no problems whatsoever.....my water parameters are normal and i use 2 emporer filters and bak pak skimmer.....here is the problem(maybe)....the past few weeks i have noticed a progression of a dark green to black aglae-like subatance growing all over the ls...it has grown quite rapidly and i can see that, in spots, strands of it are long enough to blow in the current...the fish seem unphased by it and i have seen the 2 tangs eating it occasionally.....what is this and is it harmful to the tank? if so, how should it be treated? thanks a lot...scott

...must be my nitrate...it's 60ppm...my ammo is 0, nitrite less than .25, and ph 8.6....so should i be doing more frequent water changes to get rid of it?
thanks
