So I am having a real problem with something that looks like black algae. It is all over my sand bed and growing by the minute. I have a 125 fish only. Its been up for about 6 months. The water parameters are fine(except for my phosphate). Well here is a pick and maybe someone can tell me what it is? Ty

It is Cyanobacteria.
Just a pretty colored cyano.
AKA red slime
AKA blue-green algae

Yea thats cyno alright...That stuff is a nightmare to get rid of. Try reducing lighting time or changing your bulbs if u havnt in over a year. Also try to feed less that should help. If all else fails there is a medication for it called Chemi Clean, It works as long as u follow the instructions to the letter.

I got rid of my breakout by siphoning up what I could, reducing feeding for a week, reducing lighting for a week and doing 2 water changes instead of 1. All gone in less than 7 days. Also, having phosphates is not helping you. You need to fix that first or you'll just be running in circles.

Ditto! Having high phosphates will just cause this to keep coming back no matter how much you siphon out.
