Black Cap Basslet

I posted this in the wrong forum so I will repost it here.
Ok, so I got this new fish. A Black Cap Basslet. He is a beautiful color but I never get to see him. He is in the rock all day. He seems too scared to come out. He has been in the tank since Monday. I know they like hanging out in the rocks but I assumed he would come out and swim sometimes. Am I just being impatient? I'm worried he won't get enough to eat.

If food floats down to his lair he will dart out and grab a bit but he won't swim up to get it.

Black Cap Basslets are pretty shy for awhile when they are 1st introduced. As long as it is eating, I wouldn't worry. Give it a few weeks and it should start to show itself more often. Those are very cool fish, BTW.

I don't think he is going to make it. He is still hiding and sometimes he opens his mouth really wide like he can't "breathe".

That's what I thought too.

mine was shy at first, but after a month or so he swims in the open all the time.

He is still living. I can't tell if he is being picked on because he doesn't come out for long enough. When he did the mouth thing there wasn't anybody else around.
