I hate that wording also. There are two different clowns being talked about...
Percula and Ocellaris

does anyone think it would be plausable to keep a mated pair of GSMs and a mated pair od black percs in a 150g reef with about 250 lbs of LR ?

That would depend on the females...
As long as they stay away from each other you should be fine.
However, if you create a situation that cause the two females to fight look out. Because I know you are going to ask. In the past I knew someone that had two seperate pairs of clowns in a 125. I believe it was a pair of percula and a pair of ocellaris.
Everything was fine until he added one Anemone...
Then one night the two pairs turned into one pair and the extra male.
The next night it turned into one pair.
Just something to keep in mind...
Also, all black percula are not truly black percula. There is a solid black sebae that shows up from time to time in the trade. When they are small, some times they get miss labeled. They are mean as %ell. I watched as a two inch female killed a 5 inch dragon wrasse! Not to happy of a site...

Ricco's gorgeous pair is an example of black ocellaris, aka false percs.
Black onyx clowns are black, 3 white stripes, and orange on the head and fins. They're true perculas.
Then there's the black variants of A. polymus, which have yellow on the mouth and pectoral fins.

Crox, they start out orangy/brown and with age turn black with the orange nose. If you're lucky, though, they will turn completely black. Mine are jet black with a hint of blue in their stripes.

If you are successful rasing the fries I want a pair from you!!
