What benifit does Black Powder give to a reef? Newbie question, sorry...

Black powder? Do you mean carbon? If so, not much to a *new* reef. Normally you run carbon occasionally to clear up any smells/medications/oddball chemicals/supposedly organics.
Are you refering to the stuff you run in a diatom filter with the diatomaceous earth? If so, yeah, it's carbon =).

I know what he/she is talking about.....I have only heard one person say that WOW their tank looks great after adding it. I worked in a LFS, and have had tanks for over 9yrs and have not added any "stuff" that the tank does not require.

I overheard other reefers say they use black powder in their tanks to feed their corals? Sounds like my ears were trickin me!
