Black sand in Nano Reef?

I have seen pics of black sand in the bottom of a well maintained 24g aquapod. My question is what is it and how much would it cost to get a 2-3inch layer in the bottom of a 24g aquapod?

i think that it is about the same amount but depends on whether it is live or dry unseeded, that is what makes the difference.

Mine is totally black IT is called tahition moon sand. Comes in 20 lbs bags.
