Hello,
Does anyone have black sand in their aquarium? Also could someone give some advice on mixing brown and black sand, basically how do you think it will look.

I had black sand from Samoa in my reef tank and it looked wicked. Your fish will look more colorful with darker substate too.
Color is a matter of taste. I will tell you that for best looking mixes make 1 your main color at 80%- 95%, and the other the remainder. 50/50 hardly every looks good.

the black sand does look good and makes your fish stand out, but the white sand makes the overall look of the tank much, much brighter. fish only would look good with black sand but a in a reef I would go with white...Just my.02 worth

i think it would be good but just so you know its better to have live sand with the bugs and everything instead of the dead stuff makes cycling longer but i dont know anything else but im sure there are other reasons i just cant name them.

I have live black and white sand, almost 50/50. It's cool. The only thing about it though is there are a lot of somewhat large chunks of the black in it. If I could sift those out it would be a lot better, smoother looking. I have 120 pounds now, wouldn't mind to get another 80 pounds to make it a little deeper. Think it's 2.5" now. I looked long and hard for a good deal. Can't remember where I got it but was on some random website.

2.5 inches is deep enough, you could have problems with it to deep. I have the same black and white sand with the black chunks. I must say it wasn't looking so good until I got my Diamond Goby. Now the sand bed is all landscaped nice. That goby has cleaned it all up and moved the chunks to where the pile of extra crabs shells are. He makes holes under the LR. He made quite a few and then went back and filled in the ones he didn't like, the damnest thing.
