Black Sand.....

Fanker, I see CaribSea Tahitian moon sand, which they say is an araga-mud. Looks similar to what you have. Now what is ARAGA-MUD, anyone? How is that different than live sand?

I've also used the Tahitian moon sand. It will support life (I had many mini stars) only drawback was that any algae in it made it look 'dusty'. One other thing besides that it has no buffer qualities, is that it absorbs light which could be a strain for any bottom dwelling light intensive corals. Its different and fankers looks good but its not for everyone.

for it being stirred up easy i think it depnds on the brand and what kind of rock they use....for eample if they use volcanic sand of some sort then it would be more easily stirred up IMO because volcanic rock is often times very light and the opposite for not being able to be stirred up easy...because its not a lighter rock etc....

Arag-Alive Indo Pacific Black, actually should say black and white
This is about the best pic I could get right now. There are black pebble chunks mixed in with this sand. I think my diamond goby likes it better then I do. when he moves all of the chunks to one side it looks way better but he like to bring them back out to play with them.

That looks pretty cool HatesSushi. Rahmanik the kinda that fanker has is CaribSea Tahitian Black Moon Sand. You can get information on that from the CaribSea site and it runs about $40 / 20 lb bag on the net, but then you have to worry about shipping and stuff. So I went to a local LFS to see if they can get in stock since they carry a couple of other CaribSea products. The Indo Pacific Black looks nice, but I think I prefer fankers all black sand....still looking into all this for myself

My QT tank has the Tahitian moon sand. Some of it actually looks like a black quartz or dark glass you can see tlight through but with all the real black sand you have to look close to tell. I rinse mine out between having fish in it. I actually like the all black better then the black and white.
I am also thinking my sand may be why my PH staysw stable but low, about 7.9 and buffers won't hold it up any more. At least it is stable.

It's a little less dense so you just need to get a slightly bigger grade. I don't remember where they stuff I use is from (I keep thinking Italy) but it's more like tiny pebbles than sand. It's about 1/10 the size of the head of a pin. For some reason it never had any algae grow on it.
