black urchin tried to eat my starfish!

i noticed earlier today that my black urchin was eating away at my starfish! they've been in the tank together for a while now, but never noticed this before. i had just turned the lights on and had to take my poker and move him off. he ate like the top layer of skin off the star, but it was still alive. then i saw it again trying to eat the star. i had to put a piece of dead coral in there to give the star a hiding spot. i'm wondering when i get home today if it's going to still be there. if the starfish did die in my tank, would it foul up my water? they wouldn't put off ammonia like a fish would, or would they? the star is kinda sickly looking anyway, but i was trying to let it try to fight it out as long as it could, but if it's going to cause a prob i'd like to just go ahead and put it out of it's misery. i got copepods in this tank and would like to keep them around (till i can figure out a way to move them to my other tank) anyone got answers?
here's the culprit..

The urchin is eventually going to eat the starfish, I would take the urchin back to the LFS or pore gasoline on his ass and let hell take over

chocolate chip starfish.

i've had it a while but since moving over to the reef setting i had to yank him out and put it with the urchin, which is even worse in a reef tank. eats everything on the rocks. the star didn't bother anything in my tank but the day i pulled him out it was making it's way on to my mushroom rock. (i don't think so buddy)
they seem to be keeping their distance right now. i have planned on taking them back to fish store but haven't yet. the star has some type of fungus on it, and i didn't want to bring a sick star to lfs. but he might not look any better, especially after all this. :D

yeah, but i'm kinda attached to the star. had it for a long time. the urchin was passed on to me from my roomate. the urchin is great in a fish only tank. would be cool with some lion fish. it's been on my mind to set up a lion fish tank. my damsels used to swim around in the spikes. the urchin i have will grow some long spines in a tank with just sand. it looks cool. the "eyeball" is crazy lookin'. it inflates and deflates, and it also takes a crap right out the center of it (eyeball)
the only think i hate about them is they eat the hell out of coralline. i like having live rock in a tank, but it's useless to me to have bare live rock. i'd have to have 40 tanks to have all the fish i'd like to keep. :D
