Is it ok to feed a volatin lionfish live ghost shrimp? I just purchased mine from the LFS today and they told me thats what hes eating and to start trying to switch him over to frozen krill. Also, when I put him in my tank i noticed one of his fins is bent or broken(didnt notice that at the lfs, might have happened in transit). Will it heal?

yes--ghost shrimp are fine
AS for the fin, it all depends if it "broke off and is just dangling from the skin, then it might heal, if its "bent" then maybe not

There probably not broken. A lionfish can move its dorsal fins in almost any direction, you'll see this all the time with your lion, there fins can lay flat against there bodies one second and be straight up in the air the next.

Ghost shrimp are fine for a while, but I would definitely try to get it on to frozen foods. They are so much easier to deal with this way. As for the fin, mine had a break in his spine that was almost all the way through and it is healing up, its still not all the way repaired, but it has been about 2 weeks and it is straight again, but still slightly discolored. You should be fine, just start training on that frozen stuff.

The way I found and the way I'm trying as we speak with my new dwarf lionfish is as follows. Really you just want to trick them into eating frozen so I find the key to that is feed in a consistent way all the time. I would take a ghost shrimp, grab it my the tail with tweezers and hold it in front of the lion, let it go and the lion would hit it. After hes used to being fed like that replace the ghost shrimp with frozen food and he'll most likely eat that too.

I did relatively the same thing. I waited for about 4 days until the lion was good and hungry (he went on a hunger strike so I went along with it) and then stuck a ghost shrimp through the base of the tail with my feeder stick. After he gobbled that one up I put a frozen one on there and he hit that just as quick. Ever sense then, he has eaten anything I throw into the tank.
