Black Volitan

I just bought my lion fish today at *****.
I think hes pretty healthy cause I asked the lady there if she would feed one of them so I could see which would eat the quickest. She gave a rosie red to one on the far right but the one on the far left was going crazy when the rosie red hit the tank and this was like 5 tanks over. So I decided to get him since he acted like he wanted it more than the other. My question is I have checked on a lot of back posts and everyone recommends feeding frozen food, Im not exactly sure where to get some of this stuff speacilly the silversides and krill. Does wal mart or any grocery store sell anything like this?
BTW I have some brine shrimp if that will hold him over till after thanksgiving. And If I give him brine shrimp do I just drop a cube in there or do I need to let it thaw?

I have a red volitan and he was as stubbern as they come. It took me a while to ween him of live feeders. It even made his color fade. I feed my red pops(frozen chuncks) and he loves em', and his color is back. Your gonna need a big tank.

So far hes the only fish in my 55, right now hes about an inch and a half (not from fin to fin but the body length). Is ***** really that bad with fish? I would think they would be the best place to get fish since there tanks are really clean. Im really limited on fs in my area, theres only like 2 saltwater fish stores. And lets just say this other place is the opposite of *****.

It really depends. I work for a pet store that is family owned and we specilize in saltwater. There are a few other large pet stores and there quality is very poor. I'v never even seen a lionfish as small as the one you've described in a store. The ones we carry are 4 to 5 inches in body length. He will be fine your 55 for a while. They do grow quick and they do get big.

How big are they? They are hunters so they look for an eye generally. Lionfish and eat things alot bigger than you'd think, they can open their months very largely (if that's even a word). You said you lived in Pasedena, e-mail me at RU_Experienced@hotmail.com and I'll give the name of a couple good lfs in the area.
