Bleaching SPS???

is my new bali staghorn bleaching? I moved it up closer to the light so that it would not get burned, since I saw this happening. Also is it going to die? I am looking into metal halide right now just not sure which to get.

I agree with DvSkiN. It looks like it's bleaching.
Is the tissue "peeling" off in the middle of the coral? If so, this may be Rapid Tissue Necrosis (RTN). It's unfortunatly common in wild caught Small Polyp Scleractinians (SPS), and often times cannot be stopped. RTN is usually identified when the tissue of the coral is actually peeling off (Normal bleaching usually is when the tissue gets lighter and lighter until the calcareous skeleton is showing bear). If it is in fact Rapid Tissue Necrosis, you would be best off breaking off the infected areas of the coral, leaving only the un-infected areas in the tank. The infected areas with RTN can be removed from your aquarium, so it doesn't infect other Scleractinian corals.

You may want to consider dipping it in Seachem Reef Deep or Kent Lugols Solution at twice the strength for about 15 minutes to see if you can stop the tissue recession. If the tissue recession doesn't slow down you will probably have to frag it!!! Try to decide early what your plan is! You can loose a frag that size in 12-24 hours to RTN!!!

What temp is the tank at? What temp was it in where you got it? I am no BigMac or SPSFreak, but I have a couple of SPS and have observed that temperature plays a big role in keeping SPS happy. Not so much the actual temperature, but the change in temperature. Keeping the temperature constant seems to be very important in keeping SPS.
I agree that you should break the healthier looking parts off and keep them, and discard the "bleached" parts.
