Blenny Question?

Hi guys I am planning to add a scooter blenny to my tank. I have a few books where I get most of my info about fish but none of them talk about this particular one. Can anyone tell me:
What do they eat?
Is this fish safe to have with a pink tip anemone and Xenia coral?
I ask the person at the LFS but he did not had a straight answer for me. He just mentioned that is a hard fish to keep.
:help:

I have a marine fish book published in 2001. It doesn't list a "scooter" blenny. Is there another name for this blenny? Happy to look it up for u.

P.S. I have a common name index and a species index to look at if you have the scientific name...

Becareful with their diets as they would only look for live food such as pods to eat, just like mandarin.

I don't know a lot about scooters, except that they eat pods, and I'm pretty sure the requirements are the same for them as for Mandarins, about a 100lbs of lr to support the pod population, otherwise they may not have enough to eat. I don't know anything about their demeanor, and who they get along with. HTH.....:happyfish

They get along with just about any tank mates but their dietary needs are demanding. They're dragonettes, same as mandarins.

Scooter Blennyies are miss labeled as part of the Gobiidae when they are part of the Synchiropus. They must be placed in an esablished tank with lots of LR and a well system of Pods...They're reef safe and prefere tankmates that won't harass them

From "Marine Fishes" by Scott W. Michael:
Max Length: 2.4 in.
Minimum Aquarium Size: 20 gal.
Food and Feeding: Challenging to feed. House in a tank furnished with a bed of well-established live sand, which provides live natural foods. Offer meaty foods, including shaved shrimp or vitamin-enriched live brine shrimp, using a long pipette, rigid air line tubing, or a poultry baster to deposit items near the fish on the substrate. In a tank without live sand, feed 3 times a day.
Aquarium Suitability: 2 (out of 5)
Reef Compatibility: Excellent
Captive Care: Males sport brighter colors and a larger first dorsal fin, which is erected and spread wide when displaying to less-ornate females. To keep more than one, choose two or three females with a single male. Unlike the mandarin fishes, more than one male can be kept in a medium sized aquarium if introduced simultaneously. More pugnacious tankmates may pester the dragonet and prevent it from getting enough to eat; best kept with docile species.

Thank you all for the education. I guess it will be a great fish to have after the tank is well establish otherwise it will starve to death. Greatly appreciated.

I would be wary of the anemone.Scooters like to pick at the rocks and pause..if it were to do this near that anemone it could easily sting and eat it:eek:

I have had a scooter for about 5 months in my 55 with 50# of LR and he is doing great. He will come up to eat frozen foods as well as flakes.

Hi-
I have had more than one scooter blennie over the past 2 years and they all did great eating frozen mysis shrimp. Just drop it in and let it settle down toward the bottom and they love it. At least mine did.
Good luck!

Promise is definately right about the anemone. I added a a long-tentacle to a previous tank that had a scoooter in it and sure enough he went to check it out and the anemone stung him and he died.
