Who else has Blood Shrimp that never see them??
I have had a pair of Blood Shrimp in my 120 for just about 6 months now and the only time that I ever see them is if I point a flashlight into a cave and spy on them at night. I know they are not dead because I can always find them if I search at night with the flashlight, but sheesh!
It is kinda like putting $60 in your wallet,......knowing that the $60 is there,........but never, ever, ever being able to spend it. :(
Are your Blood Shrimp like this or do I have the BloODD COUPLE?

We had the same experience with our blood shrimp before we lost it due to a heater malfunction (tank went up to over 90 degrees... very bad night).
Gorgeous shrimp, but the only time we ever saw it was during feeding time. It would dart out of the rocks, grab some food, then dart back in.
So no, I don't think you have the BloODD couple... ;)

I bought a blood shrimp almost two years ago. The single shrimp never came out, except for feeding. During feeding he would still be difficult to veiw. At the last MASLAC (Marine Aquarium Society of Los Angeles County) meeting, I won a second blood shrimp. Since I've added the second shrimp, they've been out much more. I'll even see them in the front of the tank under ledges. But, most of the time I wouldn't bother spending $30.00 on something that I would never see.

Sorry rye.... Fire Shrimp are NOT good in a big tank. They find their caves and hang out till you either feed or night falls. I would not recommend one in anything over a 29 gallon..... Even then that may be to big. I used to have one in my 12 and it was great cause i could always see him. When i fed was even better because he was completely sociable. I called him the 2 finger bandit because he would come out of no where at night when i would feed my brain and steal his food.... I miss him.... I think died in a power head while i was in NY :(

wow your blood are like my pepermints i know there there if i search for them i can find them. even at night i have to search

wow rye you paid 30 bucks a piece for those??? thats brutal
You think that's brutal, try $40.00 a shrimp!
That's why I went with the cleaner and pep-o-mints.

mine did the same thing but i could always find him cause i see his antennae poking out so i bought another to give him a friend hoping he would be more active but nope they just both hide together but the scarlet cleaners are the best i think they always are walking around the tank

Try 52 here.... Though she gets them for 25 and jacks up the price of everything 100 percent....

Mine was out alot until I upgraded to MH. He hides alot more now. He does come out to eat, but still sticks to shadowy areas. Worth the thirty bucks to me.

I paid 28 bucks for mine from this board and he is up and about all the time... For the first month though, he only came out during feeding times.
When I had had an ich outbreak he was constantly cleaning the fishes! :)

the fire shrimp are a deeper water shrimp.....so they dont like as intense light as say a skunk cleaner...because they are collected at greater depths teh price for these little guys usually skyrockets! i had one in my 65,and got him a friend adn now the pair come out a little more, but not like my pair of skunks!
good luck

I have 8 in my 240 FOWLR. For lighting I have about 2.5 watts per gallon. I do have a lot of overhangs, and thats usually where I see them durring the day when the lights are on.

I have had my blood shrimp for three months and have seen him twice. Just enough to know he is still alive. $45.00 for one around here. Outrageous!!! $23.00 on SWF.

Get a pair of scarlet skunk cleaner shrimp....They don't hide and are nearly always out in the open where you can see them. Lesley

My results have been mixed. The first blood/fire shrimp that I had was great! He was very social, always out in the open and would eat from my hand.:D
The one I have now is smaller and doesn't come out much. I have been thinking about adding another - maybe then it will be less shy.

When we had only one blood shrimp we never saw him but now we have two and they are out most of the time now. One of them really likes to jump on your hand if you put it near him and cleans around your finger nails.
