Yes... however I'm a purist. I don't feed my fish anything that doesn't originate from the ocean. Freshwater gets fed freshwater stuff and saltwater gets fed saltwater stuff.

I agree. Bloodworms are definitely more for freshwater fish.

Uneaten or any that escape and die can murk up your water. They are pretty 'dirty' worms and unless you are having major problems trying to get a fish to eat i wouldn't add them. Ive saw a pet store add them to a tank and within minutes we heard an 'overflowing' noise, and the protein skimmer had gone nuts and was overflowing. just my 2 cents :happyfish

it's always good to have variety. i even feed brine every once in a while. there are definately better choices for daily foods though.

I just thought I would ask, but I know that bloodworms are for freshwater fish so are mysis shrimp that everyone says are way better for the fish over brine. So I guess the "freshwater" thing does not apply all the time??

As an occasional treat, bloodworms are fine for SW fish. I've been using them for years and have had no problems. I use frozen, and soak in selcon or zoe. Variety is key and there are a lot of good foods to choose from, but blood worms are usually taken with gusto.

If you look in the top of the Disease and Treatment forum, Beth posted a recipe for making your ouwn fresh SW fiswh food. I tried that and it is the best thing I have done. The fish love it better then anything I could overpay for at the LFS.

If you are looking for live worms to feed your salt fish, black worms are a much better choice.

i don't know if anyone else knows or cares, but i just read today that bloodworms are red misquito larvae. that sounds like a pretty natural part of a diet for many freshwater fish.

Yes it is a freshwater diet. My Bettas and my Discus both get these. But I was just wondering if they were okay to feed the odd time to the saltwater fish too.
Mysis Shrimp is a freshwater shrimp and many people feed that to their saltwater fish.
