im not sure about the blue dot. Tho panther groupers will not hide. Mine never stops swimming and is a good choice for a 240g, because he will not out grow it.

I had a blue-spotted grouper, and he was never in hiding. It swam around about half the time. They typically find their place and hang out. A very hardy fish IMO. I will be getting another once I get my stuff straightened out.

The blue spot is very similar in personality traits to the Coral Hind and blue line gropers, They are all in the same family of clasification ( Cephalopholis). While other gropers can go with these fish, it is best not to keep Coral Hind, Blue Line and Blue Spotted gropers in the same tank. A miniatus Or Coral Hind will spend his hunting time out in the open, and when he is full or not quite as hungry will hide in the coral and wait for his next prey. He loves live foods mainly the domino Damsel. I have never used this to feed him, but in the wild this is his fish of choice. I find this groper to be the coolest of the group. I hope this will help. fYI THE Cephalopholis miniatus is sneeky and will attack any new tankmate no mater what size, he is the King of the tank.
