I found one at my LFS and man its freaken NICE! but my question is.. is it safe to keep with pendants and no lid on my tank.. the lfs guy said they jump but i never heard this before.
I'm getting one soon. My LFS said that they only jump when spooked...AKA NO ONE BANGS ON TANK! Once they get a burrowed settled and there used to it it will be fine. I don't have a lid but just a canopy, if he jumps hes hittin the top and back in, I wouldn't worry about it though.
I had one at a LFS of mine and he wanted like 175 for it.. I dont honestly know why anybody would pay more than 20 bucks for a fish though...... but thats just me =c)
The BSJ comes from mexico and is against their law to collect them. So they are rare in the stores until some one/diver gets lucky and does not get shot....haha
A bit in a hurry, I'm sure that one had to said that the blue spotted jawfish is a jumper indeed for you need to help protect this fish by having some type of covering over the overflow box as well some protection at the back the tank.
By me, this fish sells for I think remembering for $160 for this was about two years ago and even if it is at that cost, I will have one in both reef tanks.
Just a warning my wife had one for about 2 months it jumped out of her tank with eggcrate and glass tops on it. There were 3 eggcrate holes on the back right side that didn't have glass over them and he found them and went straight trough to the floor.
He had a nice big burrow and seemed comfortable during the day but every night he would go up and start jumping. If you get him make sure there are no holes anywhere!
