hello
i have been posting on the boards and doing research about fish. i have been wanting to know some personal experiences with the fish as well as some personal info tht you have found while keeping these guys.
i have been looking at the lunar wrasse today but when i went hame and did some research on em i found out tht they dont do well with inverts?
how true is this has anyone kept these with inverts?
i like how they swim and move around the tank as well as thier cigar body shape.
i looked for anohter one and saw the blue head wrase! this one said montor with shrimp. i figured if i either
A) introduced them t the same time
B) found one of the wrasse's small enough
then i would be okay. considering its a 90 gal and i only hav 2 shrimp and the tanks big
anysugestions i would like to have one very much so anything helps.

have a good night.

Neither are reef safe and it is highly likely they would eat your shrimp and snails at some point.
The lunare would, IMO, be a terrible choice. They are highly active, get quite large, and earn their alternate common name of "lunatic" wrasse.

Wrasse fish are an extremely large family of fish, with some 600 species, to date.
Some, like the bird wrasse, cigar wrasse, sheephead wrasse can grow quite large (3 feet).
They are carnivores. The larger species will descimate your hermie and shrimp populations. As well as urchins :scared: if the wrasse are the larger of the species.
They are built for it. Strong bodied, solid "lipped", Pitt Bull jaws and fins that Houdini would appreciate.
The smaller wrasse fish: sixline (4 and 8 also), many of the fairy wrasse, who reach an adult size of 4 inches or so, can be wonderful additions to a reef.
You must be very specific in your research and choice of these fish.

i like them both so once again lets hear some info/personal experiences..
how about the fish list, overloaded? what about the availability of the fish i choos to keep.
will they be hapy or just making it

Happy birthday, by the way :cheer:
The pennant fairy wrasse will always be my favorite.
CAUTION, there is an arguement in my home as to whether or not this 3" fairy wrasse killed a sally lightleg crab. I don't think so, but possible. The fairy wrasse jumped.
I have a second sally lightleg with my 2 red cigar wrasse, and the sally is fine for 6 months now.
Again they ARE carnivores. With very large appetites. I'm learning also and cannot stress this enough about the larger wrasse (6+ inches, adult size, don't do it in a community tank)
The wrasse are definite jumpers..you have to cover your tank.
Your tank mates sound fine.
I love wrasse fish, but the larger wrasse are not advisable for new wrasse owners.

Also consider the order in which you add your fish.
Long Nosed BF, YT and angel when your tank has matured enough to offer algae and other (pods) natural foods. 6 mos at least. These fish really need to feed all day long. And you would overfeed your entire tank to keep them satisfied. They are slender, but have big appetites.
Most aggressive last. My opinion is the pair of clowns last and together.
Anyone else? I don't add stock often enough to be positive on order.

well the tang i have and i think he needs to get out of tht 29 gal .. or can he stay in there for the 4-5 extra months untilll i can get the Unaggressive guys in there
clowns,chromis,fairy wrasse,watchman,
about the butterfly.. do they need a mature tank? i will offer nori, the alge sheets, brine, mysis, prime reef, and flake. i think i have enough to satisy their appetite.
?
so can he go in earlier then expected? ill will try to get the tang in 2nd to last cus the angel needs to go in too but cant go in too early and the tang IMO shouldnt be in the 29 tht long and i know if i put him in the tank when the tank cycled and b4 i buy the butterfly and wrasse he might make territory,, will the tang and flame get along both being territorial?
idk
ill try the 1st way and put the butterfly in before the tang and after the no aggressive thins

is it worth making a new thread asking for stock order and give them my fish list (current and to be added) and see what they say so the title draws their attention
like Help me stock In Order
or wit
ch fish first?

YT in a 29?
What on earth were you thinking?
If he is of good size (3 or 4 inches?), I guess I would go ahead and put him in the 90, once the cycle is positively complete.

i ask tht to my self as well
i went into the lfs and he talked me into it..
(man he was convincing and sounded SO sure ...
 )
i knew i was going bigger so i figured he can stay
but let me tell you he is TINY
when you measure you measure from the nose to the end right the back tail fin dosent count right?
if so he abou 1.5-2 in long. hes small all together hes about 2-2.5
BTW listen to this BULL
my parents went into his store to see what he had fro tanks for x mas and he tried to sell them a 75 gallon they knew i and they wanted the 90 so they said ill look around the the lfs guy said realy? i personally would go with the 75 everyone i know has problems with the 90's cus of the wierd gallons in the tank..
funny how thinks changed in his favor huh :notsure: :hilarious

Look into a Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse, I think they are an amazing fish. I would love to put one in my 15 gallon. I think my tank is too small for one. Any suggestions on that would be great. (sorry for the hijack)
Good luck.

Yes it would be worth it to start a thread.
Wrasse, I am familiar with.
Tangs, I don't know and have never been fond of. I have had experience with them, and traded them because the tank was too small and none of us were happy.
BFF, I've heard are difficult to keep and entice to accept the foods you mention. They are wild caught and the poor things don't recognize processed foods?
Additional thought...I wonder if the problems with the 90gallon tanks the LFS mentioned were due to the overflows, not the actual gallonage? I have been looking for a bare 90 without overflows, myself.
