Do you have a picture? That sounds like popeye and the sack around the eye popped. It does not mean that his eye itself isn't fully intact. Take a closer look.

Popeye is not contageous, but let's see if we can identify why he would have it. Can you plese list your tank specs. Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, kh, ph, temp, and salinity? Also, how long have you had this fish, what size aquarium and how long has it been running?

This is an eye infection. Is it just one eye? Has this fish been netted recently? Please post up your water readings. Also, prepare to do a water change using aged, well mixed salt water.

the salinity is 1.025 water temp 79.9 P.h. is 7.8 amon is 0.0 nit is 0.0 ive had the tank running for about 9 months its a 90 gallon tank it is just his one eye but today it looks better it lookis like its really glossy now also ive had this fish for about 4 months and hs been fine up to now
