Blue Hippo Tang in QT

Yesterday we had just put our blue tang in for QT to cure her ich, as dirceted, we put 1/2 a spoon medic in at 10pm this was the first dose, (it says dose twice a day once at 10am and then at 10pm).Our QT is 20 gal PH is 7.8-8.0 and the salanity is 1.022,now this morning when she woke up i noticed in the yellowish part of her tail i can see pink blemishes, almost like blood looking, is there something wrong i have never noticed before, today is the first time ive seen this, should i be worried?

Hi, I am still learning myself but I wanted to suggest that you look at the disease and treatments threads at the top of this forum, they are full of valuable information. I am learning to QT myself and using hypo, which is working great for me. Hypo is detailed in the treatment thread. I believe that most of the medicines will possible harm the fish instead of curing the ich, hypo is natural. I think too that your PH is alittle low, shouldn't be as low as 7.8. I try to keep my tanks at 8.2-8.4 ph and salinity at 1.024. Good Luck!

That sounds like he is getting a bacterial infection. Please do take a look at hyposalinity. It is detailed in Beth's Common Treatments FAQ at the top of this forum. You won't be able to treat the infection with medication while you are using the ich medication. You can treat him if he is in hyposalinity. Adding vitamins and fresh garlic to his food will help for now.

"Medic" is manufactured by Polyp Labs it is completely reef safe, buffered to maintain physcological PH, does not harm invertebrates or nitrifying bacteria.

I tried a google search on 'medic' and could find nothing. What is the oxidizing agent(s)? Call me a skeptic, but I am leary of treatments for Ich other than hyposalinity or copper. I try to stay open minded about other possible treatment options but there are so many threads about people naming products that 'cure' Ich only to hear later that the Ich returns.
The red blothches you mention are indicative of bacterial infections most of the time in swfish.

well when i got home from work the blemishes kinda just either got lighter or is going away they are not red blotches its like pinkish, i think its cause i do not have any lighting over my QT tank, just in the room i have a very bright light i can see her natural colours more diffrently. My friend who also works at the LFS recomended this product and has been successful treating in his tank and in my father in laws tank which occured over a year ago same ich problem with same Blue Tang, it says its reef/invertebrate safe but i still did not want to attempt to use it in my DT so i took her out and put her in for QT hoping my other fish in my Dt dont have it either but so far no signs of any free swimming parasites.... if you would like more info on Medic follow this link :http://www.polyplab.com/medic.html

If your father used it on the same fish in his DT a year ago then it couldn't have worked too well. The fish still has ich. Reef safe, and invert safe, ich treatments do not actually kill ich. They help to keep the parasites off of the fish's body. It helps keep the ich population low, but enough still attach to keep the population alive. Ich is an invert. There is no medication that will kill ich but not other inverts. This fish is in the QT. Why not treat him in a way that will kill the parasites?

no he has a blue tang as well that is fine ,big,beautiful and healthy... not my actual blue tang my tang is new she is still a lil one
