The LFS got in two 5" hippo tangs. My question is, what is normal behavior for a hippo that has been recently taken out of the ocean? I know that they tend to hide and or play dead.
The one fish looked nice, but it was occassionally scratching on the sand. It would only seem to do it when I would approach the tank. Now to me scratching says Ich. I could not see any signs of Ich, but I though it may be under the skin. The LFS owner tells me that it is not Ich and that it is normal for a hippos to do that. He said that it is still adjusting to captivity and that sometimes there skin gets "chaffed" during shipment.
I figured I would wait a couple of days and go back and check them out. Any advice would be appreciated. My gut says don't buy fish that are scratching. It seems pretty hard to find a healthy hippo.
