Tonight I saw my hippo turn the black color on each side to yellow. I was wondering if someone elso has seen this and what it mean't. I thought maybe it was scared.

I saw one at a LFS this past weekend that had a yellow belly. The tag said Yellow Belly Blue Hippo Tang and it was like $250 I think. It wasn't nearly as attractive as a regular BH to me.

That is a hugely overpriced fish your LFS has. I had a yellow belly who didn't make it past the QT, but my LFS has another one and it's a fraction of your LFS's.

It was fairly big, I want to say a good 6" or so. It might have been $219, but regardless I remember how high it was. This is the same store I bought 2 skunk cleaner shrimp from for $42.99 each.

I don't think it's anything to be worried about it was only a temporary thing and it looks great today. I was just surprised this fish could turn black colorings into yellow. Also I am told they are highly likely to develop ick so since I just finished treating it for ick I surely did not want to do it again soon. I was told they scare easily and this would be a reason they get ick so often. As far as price goes I paid $50.00 for mine but I have seen them go for $35 and $70.

well wouldnt it be nice of we all could live on a tropical coast where shipping these delicate animal from store to store is much less of an issue. Bragging about it makes you to be truly well Im gonna stop myself right there. So to you people bragging how little you pay, i hope you feel good about yourselves, Im in upstate NY, and a hippo is never under 50$ for a tiny .5"-1.5" larger ones in the 100$ range skunk shrimp @ least 40$. But even though the prices are way too much, Id take NY over CA any day, people are just so much nicer. Now to the question about the hippo, Ive dealt with many of them before, they like to scare people into thinking theres something wrong with them. Ive seen the color change you described many times on both my yellow belly, and my regular hippo, dont be alarmed. Only worry when they get parasites or stop eating, b/c they love to eat and they are ich magnets

It's not bragging to say how little some of us pay for livestock, because all you have to do is drive to the next town over and you can get decent price livestock. Some LFS charge as much as they can get for stock if they know people will pay that. For example LKG is within 30 min drive from multiple stores, I'm pretty sure of that. It's criminal to pay tripple the going rate. Just my $0.02 worth.

actually it is bragging when you
that is a na na face right? well either way when comments are made such as you got "ripped off" because i paid x$ less than you
basically is a sign that someone is ignorant to realize how the fish trade works in places outside his/her community, when a fish has to be shipped across country in stead of across state, its potential chances of infections, mal nutrition, starvation, and of course death become much more prominant. Thats why aroud the western coast blue hippos (collected in the pacific, west coast
) are cheaper than on the east coast where they have to travel across the whole country. So its not even close to say that someone could go to another store a little ways a way for a cheaper one the prices are going to be high no matter what. Another example, in Fort Lauderdale I got a juvi queen on my way home for 30$, I got home and saw a smaller sickly one in one of my LFS for 120$, that is a rip off but the fish traveled and evidence was there. More land=more money

It depends on where you get your fish and how much profit your LFS wants. I'm in NC, so I'm far far away from the west coast. I'm not that far from LKG and *know* that he doesn't have to drive far to get better prices. You can also get great prices online (inc shipping), just know where you shop and do your research.
