Blue Koran Angel

Hi, I recently purchased a blue koran angel. He is only 2 days old and he is having extreme diffuculties... I purchased him just only one day after he arrived at the store. I brought him home and floated him for about two hours. Immediately after I let him out of the bag, he swam on his side straight into the top corner of the tank. A couple hours later he traded positions and hid behind a rock on the bottom. He seems to periodically trade positions between the top and bottom of the tank(never swimming) and hovers at a slight angle. Now, 2 days later, I noticed that his color has faded from the brilliant black, white and blue to almost a chalky white color. He has not eaten since I brought him home and I'm not sure what to do about it. My water quality is fine and my other fish are great. I have a sailfin tang, bluethroat trigger and 3 assorted damsels. Please help. :help:

We wont know anything from saying the water quality is fine. Run a test and post your results. Also, the damsels might be causing some trouble. What size tank do you have?

salt shock??? did you drip acclimate? it's good to float the bag to get rid of the temp. differences but you have to drip acclimate to get rid of the water differences. two things fish hate..,

LFS salinity is notoriously low so you must drip to rid the difference between your and the LFS tanks.

for some reason the angel is stressed. it could be a number of reasons like your water quality, how you acclimated, the fish in your tank, the size of your tank, or the hiding places that you have for it. please give a detailed description.

Thanks for responding... My tank is 50gal. It's been set up now for almost 8 months. The water quality I thought was fine. It was...SG 1.025 pH 8.4, temp 76, ammonia level is practically zero... just had a water change prior to adding the Koran. Last night I noticed he had multiple cuts on his body and a large gash on his under side. My other fish seem to leave him alone. I don't get it.

ok people be nice and dont jump all over him for the size of his tank and the fish he has in it. you didnt mention if you have live rock for him to hide in and if he has cuts something isnt leaving him alone. suggest you put him in a hospital tank i had a lionfish with a wound and the other fish kept biting at it until the wound that was the size of my fingernail when i left for work was the size of a quarter by the time i got home

I have a Koran as well and won't go into the details of your tank being too small. I would hope reading the prior post you figured that out. If he stresses, small tank size is probably the main reason. He may end up dying because of the stress.
You need to get the fish to eat, so get some Garlic Extreme or better yet fresh garlic and soak some cut up bits of krill or bloodworms in the garlic juice for about half an hour and then feed him.
While I wouldn't recommend feeding any fish a constant diet of bloodworms (I rotate foods daily) soaking them in garlic got my Koran's attention. After I did the bloodworms at one feeding, I was able to rotate all my foods and he was as eager as the rest of the fish he shares a tank with.
You might want to consider returning the Koran to your LFS. I don't think your tank is big enough and you are just asking for a continual problem until unfortunately, he dies.
Hope this helps you,
Denise M.
