I saw this blue lion fish at the pet store. One of the people there were telling me about it. Does anyone know about this fish? I am just starting so I would not get one, but he looked cool. In the future I would like one. Can someone tell me about them?

i forgot the name of him. I think that it started with an R. i'll have to get back to you on the name. It was like a regular lion fish, but instead of red it was like a blue color. I heard that they are like a cross breed or something. I guess that they are a high end, and rather expensive fish. They are a new breed perhaps. He said that he had special ordered him for something. It was SO COOL. Anyone else know about blue lions????

I have heard of yellow and green lions and seen pics, usually they are very rare. I havent heard or read anything about blue ones though, and would be interested in hearing more or a pic. I dont think genetic manipulation is quite to that point yet especially since we cant get lions to breed in capitivity, yet..

This guy at tanks alot was telling me how he ordered a blue lion fish. it was the color of the walls in the store. Ask for the guy named Chris. He is the one who was telling me about it. however chris made it sound like the guy at tanks didn't order it, maybe he was just holding it for him??? I was there the other day and the fish or chris was not there. I will hunt him down and find out more for you all.

I have seen blue-fin lions before, a dwarf species, not the Pterois. If memory serves, you have to go to the western pacific (ie. Japan) to find specimens like that, which translates into expensive and rare, generally speaking - occasionally one of the neighborhood wholesalers gets their hands on stuff like that.
these were posted on another board of the blue-fin:

AHHH a black volitan. They come in dark dark colors like that. But usually a black volitan is only partially black. If what you saw was a deep blue all over then he's a rare color....
I think ;)

No this for sure wasn't black, it was blue. Are black volitans different then regular? Aww... I want one. I think that I heard something along the lines of that this blue fish was from Hong Kong. I believe.

Wow. How incredibly coooool. It makes me wish I had a tank for a lion fish. If you find out the name, can you please post it?

Well if this midnight blue and black are the same fish then it is called a luna lionfish. Also know as a peacock lionfish. Scientific name pterois lunulata. I think. Maybe we finally figured out what it is. It looks cool, I want one!!!!
