I bought a blue maxima clam two weeks ago. This mornig when getting up to check my reef the clam was on his side and nothing left in the shell. I have two clowns, yellow tang, damnsel, blue legs crab, conch, olive snail, and a numberous smooth corals. All are doing well. Saltity is 1.025, ph 8.2, ca 420, nit and amm 0. the lighting is blue vho and 10,000K halide. What might be the problem? I do not what to put another one in until I have an idea what happened?

What is a smooth coral? My guess is that you've done what we've all done. You got something on impulse before you knew hoe to care for it. (I've killed a few anemones before my tank was ready for one). How old is your tank? It seems as if you are pretty new to the hobby. Just a guess. Research this closely before you get another. I'm not familiar with an olive snail either. Anybody?

The clam was only 2". The smooth coral should have been soft coral. The tank is one year two months old. The olive snail is the type of shell, not sure of the correct name. It stays buried in the sand most of time.

It seems strange that there was nothing left in the shell. I know when mine died, there was plenty of meat inside, inspite of the crabs and snails having a feast. Did you notice any crabs or snails on it for any time before that? It may be that it has been dead for awhile, and you just didn't know it. I know mine was dead for a couple of days before I figured it out, because it looked like it was open. Well, it was open, butnot like they really open up. The cause of death for mine was just the trauma of the change from the ocean to the tank. Too much stress. All of the water parameters were fine, and nothing attacked or killed it. It just gave up the ghost.
